Over the past 18 years, thousands of us have grown to love this crazy little game with plastic super heroes, flying across a paper map and teaming up in ways that we never thought were possible. We’ve been to tournaments, local events, and even the grandest stage in the land, but over time the game has started to lose its grasp on the community. How do we as a player base work to overcome such hurdles?

Rebuilding the game, we know and love, is a grossly undervalued part of what makes this experience so special. This is because it takes special people to go out of their way to push boundaries, take risks, and bring people together to help restore Heroclix to its former glory. Welcome one and all, to the Heroclix Community Spotlight.

This week I had the pleasure of speaking with none other than Scott "Cram Company" Cramton! It's no secret that Scott has been a very large influence in Heroclix since its competative conception, and he has no plans of ever slowing down. I was able to get on a call with Scott and play some chess, talk Heroclix, and blabber nonsense for a little over an hour. It is a conversation you won't want to miss, so I highly recommend clicking the youtube link below to watch our lame chess match and listen to the whole thing! Viewer Discretion IS ADVISDED as there is some very strong language to greet you. Without further adu, lets dive into a little background for Scott.

I first met Scott during my first ever competative match of Heroclix. It was ROCtober 2016 in Atlanta GA. There was a last chance super qualifier that we decided to play in and Scott and I got paired round 1. Unfortunately for me, Scott was playing Felix Faust, mr. mxyzptlk, the Quinjet, 2 Ultron drones, jarvis, retal and IDs and I was playing KC flash and the Engineer. Not exaclty a great matchup for me at the time. I mad one attack the whole game. Funny thing was, Scott and I would play again that weekend, in the first round of the Midnight Superqualifier, and also the first round of finals on Sunday! Three first round matchups at my first ever competative event was quite the eye opener for me. But it tought me that there was much more to learn about clix and that it is defintely ok to show class, have fun, and still be a top tier player.

Scott, along with my fellow Phoenix Nest member PJ Bolin are the hosts of Critical Clix: an adult podcast that puts the hard R rating in Heroclix. This was the first ever podcast I listened to when I decided to get into competative clix, and boy was I glad I did. Their philosophy has always been: "Is this figure good in competative? No? Ok we do not care at all. Yes? Alright why?" and I love it. Listening to Scott (and at the time Kevin) talk about strategies and interactions I was not familiar with helped to elevate my game and get me to focus harder on being a better clix player.

If you ever run into Scott during a clix event, be sure to stop by, make fun of his balding head, and give him a hard time. He will probably fire some shots right back, but that has always been a part of his charm. I think Scott has been a wonderful asset to the clix community over the past 18 years and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
