Hello and welcome everyone to a very special article! As many of you are aware, the ROC wanted to start a program that exemplifies the achievements and careers of Heroclix players around the world. We announced our end of year awards a few weeks ago, but there was a small announcement made that stated a new Heroclix Hall of Fame would be created. This group will be made of Heroclix players that have a large and lasting impact on the community, have proven their skill with the game, and have tested their mettle on the field of battle, and have emerged victorious! It is very important to also understand that greatness in battle is not the only thing that makes a player “Great.” We wanted to make it very clear that other acts within the community such as judging, game design, podcasting, etc will be kept in consideration when nominations are placed. The ROC has nominated the first five members for the class of 2020, and the members will be responsible for nominating new members every other year going forward. That way this will be a group of players, by players, and for players.

Let’s get started with our third inductee: George Massu.

Oh boy, where to begin here. What can we say? Its the G.O.A.T. The man, the myth, the Massu. You know him, you love him, he is widely considered, the Greatest, of all time.

George Massu’s Heroclix career started around 06/07. A filthy casual like so many of us were when we started playing. Friendly basement games with friends and colleagues was where George found his joy with Heroclix. At the time, he was just teaching himself how to play and didn’t even realize competitive events even existed! But, the fire was not so easily kept in check, and it was not long before he attended his first large event. Wizard Worlds Chicago in 2007. George found his way to the big time, the large one, the top of the mountain at the time. This did not scare him, the G.O.A.T. was not yet unleashed on the world, but that didn’t mean George’s competitive spirit was any less full of fire. A victory was obtained, and George was titled “Champion” for the first of many times in his career.

Local state events at brick and mortar stores, venues all over Michigan, and conventions such as Gencon started seeing more and more of George as time progressed. After Wizkids was acquired by Necca before the Hammer of Thor set dropped in 2009, George obtained his first “Official” world title championship at Gencon in 2010. You all may recognize a certain green jump suited man being choked out by Shazam’s mortal enemy, Black Adam. Well, ladies and gentlemen, the G.O.A.T. has arrived.

2012. Gencon. A second place finish with the figure he created. Imagine the thrill of taking something that was the fruit of your success, and then almost doing it again. George and I have had this conversation before, and I have stated that I did not find Black Adam to be that terrific in the field, but at the same time, I was also admitting that George’s second place finish was insanely impressive and showed off his skill as a pilot. This proved he was world class, and to some, the Greatest of All Time.

George has had two additional 2nd place finishes at worlds singles, a Majestics ROC Nationals win in 2018, a Team world championship in 2019 and countless other even wins in the past several years. George has proven his mettle is able to be tested and weathers storms of all shapes and sizes, and he has taught the community a lot about what it means to play this game at the highest level. If you have not had an opportunity to sit down with George and talk strategy and competition, we highly recommend it.

When nominating members to the Heroclix Hall of Fame, George was easily the first name to be spoken and for good reason. He is an outstanding player with a crazy history, and we will certainly look forward to seeing him at the top tables at events in the future.

Join us in Congratulating George Massu on his induction to the 2020 Heroclix Hall of Fame!
